2025 DMC WORLD DJ CHAMPIONSHIPS to take place in TOKYO

DMC Celebrates 40 Years in Tokyo: A Historic Weekend for the World DJ Championships

In a landmark moment for the global DJ community, the 40th edition of the DMC World DJ Championships will be held in Tokyo, Japan, on October 11 and 12, 2025. This year’s championship carries special significance, not only for marking four decades of turntablism excellence but also as a celebration of DMC’s enduring partnership with Technics, who themselves are celebrating an extraordinary 60 years of innovation in sound.

Tokyo was chosen not just for its vibrant music culture, but for its profound historical ties to DJing. It is, after all, the birthplace of the Technics SL-1200, the legendary turntable that revolutionized DJ performance and remains the gold standard for vinyl purists and battle DJs alike. Japan has also produced some of the most celebrated champions in DMC history—DJ Kentaro, DJ Izoh, DJ Yuto, DJ Rena, and the five-time Team World Champions Kireek—each of whom has helped shape the global perception of Japanese turntablism.

The weekend begins on a high note with the DMC Meet & Greet Opening Party at Studio Freedom. This tradition brings together champions, judges, fans, and international delegates in an energetic gathering where DMC branches from around the world introduce their 2025 national winners. It’s more than a party—it’s a reunion of a worldwide community bound by the art of DJing.

On Saturday, the spotlight turns to O-East, one of Tokyo’s premier live venues, for an all-day celebration of skill, creativity, and competition. The program includes the intense battles of the Classic, Scratch, and Battle for Supremacy categories—each showcasing a different facet of turntablism mastery. Interwoven throughout the day are exclusive showcases from elite DJs and crews, culminating in the DMC Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony, which honours the pioneers and visionaries who have elevated the artform to global heights.

The weekend concludes with an electrifying finale at Harlem, widely regarded as Japan’s leading hip-hop venue. Here, in collaboration with AlphaTheta, DMC will present the final of the Open Category—a new and evolving format that encourages genre-blending and experimental creativity. The night will also feature special guest sets, live performances, and surprise appearances—ensuring a high-energy close to this historic celebration.

DMC extends heartfelt thanks to its valued partners Technics, AlphaTheta, Monkey Shoulder, and Ortofon, whose support and shared passion for DJ culture have helped make the 2025 DMC World DJ Championships a truly unforgettable global event.
